using a 11 to 18mm lens start at 11 and notch it a few mm every 1 or 2 minutes then zoom out in the same way and it'll give you a strange effect.

If you are referring to the purple around the edges, that's noise (I know because I own a D200 also; I just call it "the noise maker"
